PAG 2011 Aquaculture Workshop Announcement from the Workshop Organizer The Plant and Animal Genome (PAG) Aquaculture Workshop will be held in San Diego January 15-16, 2011. The theme for this year's Aquaculture Workshop is: "Post-genomics aquaculture research: acquiring and using high-quality reference genomes for finfish and shellfish species". Invited speakers will include Dr. William Davidson (Simon Fraser University), Dr. Ben Koop (University of Victoria), Dr. John Liu (Auburn University), Dr. Geoff Waldbieser (USDA), and Dr. John Buchanan (AquaBounty Technologies). Additional speakers for the 1.5 day workshop will be chosen by committee from abstracts submitted directly via email to the Aquaculture Workshop Chair, Dr. Matt Rise (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Travel Award Applications: The Aquaculture Genomics Group of the NRSP-8 is pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of Travel Bursaries, of up to $1000, to support the attendance of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at PAG to be held January 15-19, 2011. All graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who will submit an abstract to the Aquaculture workshop are eligible for consideration. Applicants should submit all the required items as listed below by September 15, 2010, through e-mail to Matt Rise (email@example.com): 1) the abstract to be submitted to PAG, including the title and authors; 2) a statement of the anticipated costs for the applicant to attend the PAG meeting, including information on additional resources (if any) that will be available to support their attendance; and 3) Travel award applicants MUST also arrange for their supervisor to send an e-mail to Matt Rise confirming their status as a graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. Award selections will be made and awardees will be notified soon after the September 15 deadline. Awards will be paid after the meeting as a travel stipend.
Abstract Submission and Review: Abstracts to be considered for oral presentations at the PAG Aquaculture Workshop must be submitted by email to Matt Rise (firstname.lastname@example.org) by September 15, 2010. Please note that all abstracts (for both oral and poster presentations) must also be submitted directly to PAG using the PAG website (deadline: November 1, 2010). Abstracts being considered for an oral presentation will be reviewed by committee after the September 15, 2010 internal deadline, and those selected for oral presentations will be notified in early October 2010. Abstracts will be judged on both the scientific quality of the abstract, and interest to USDA National Animal Genome Research Project (National Research Sponsored Project, NRSP-8) aquaculture species stakeholders.
Again, please note the following deadlines related to the PAG Aquaculture Workshop:
September 15, 2010: Deadline for submission of PAG Travel Award Applications (email to: email@example.com)
September 15, 2010: "Internal deadline" for submission of abstracts for those wishing to be considered for an oral presentation in the PAG Aquaculture Workshop (email to: firstname.lastname@example.org). Please note: We are implementing an earlier internal abstract submission deadline this year. Please follow the PAG abstract guidelines on the PAG website.
November 1, 2010: PAG deadline for submission of abstracts (for all oral and poster presentations). All presenters in the Aquaculture Workshop (i.e. those selected to give oral presentations, as well as those who will present poster presentations) should select "Aquaculture poster session" in the PAG online abstract submission process. Like last year, the presenting author will likely have to be registered prior to abstract submission on the PAG website. I look forward to seeing you at PAG in January 2011.
