Livestock Product Trait (LPT) Ontology
Enhancing the ability to standardize phenotype nomenclature
The Livestock Product Trait (LPT) Ontology is a controlled vocabulary for the description of traits (measurable or observable characteristics) pertaining to products produced by or obtained from the body of an agricultural animal or bird maintained for use and profit. Consortium:
Iowa State University, with input from the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) and the European Animal Disease Genomics Network of Excellence (EADGENE), has worked to incorporate the Animal Trait Ontology (ATO) with other important characteristics of livestock to develop a Livestock Product Trait (LPT). Development has proceeded in parallel with creation of the Vertebrate Trait (VT) Ontology. Both ontologies are based on morphological, physiological, and developmental traits in vertebrates. This project is aimed at enhancing the ability to standardize phenotype nomenclature across species.
