Vertebrate Trait (VT) Ontology
Enhancing the ability to standardize phenotype nomenclature
Vertebrate Trait (VT) Ontology is a controlled vocabulary for the description
of traits (measurable or observable characteristics) pertaining to the
morphology, physiology, or development of vertebrate organisms.
Consortium:
Iowa State University, Mouse Genome Informatics, the Rat Genome Database,
European Animal Disease Genomics Network of Excellence (EADGENE) and the
French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) have worked
together to incorporate the Mammalian Phenotype (MP) ontology and the
Animal Trait Ontology (ATO)
to develop a Vertebrate Trait Ontology (VT), with emphasis on morphological,
physiological and developmental traits in vertebrates. This project is aimed
at enhancing the ability to standardize phenotype nomenclature across species.
This will undoubtedly help the animal genome community by facilitating the
transfer of genomics information from some well studied species.
