Subject: WCGALP Session Complex Cell Systems

Dear All,

We are organizing a session on « Complex cell systems » at the World
Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production that will be held
in Rotterdam (NL) in July 2022 (https://wcgalp.com/).

Three-dimensional (3D) stem cell-based in vitro modeling systems (e.g.
organoids) are becoming increasingly popular in research for their
ability to mimic tissue-like structures more effectively than monolayer
cell cultures. In animal sciences, they are expected to bridge the gaps
between cell, tissue and organism scale knowledge for the dissection of
the complex traits relevant for sustainable productions, with strong
ethical 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction and Refinement) benefits and novel
perspective applications for the animal breeding industry.

For this session we aim at collecting the latest contributions from the
farmed animal science community (both academia and industry),
particularly on the following broad themes:

- Methodological improvement and characterization of 3D in vitro
  systems from farmed animal species.
- Study reports of in vitro phenotyping (eg. response to
pathogens, nutrients and other environmental challenges,
  reproductive/fertility traits) and/or validation of
  genotype-to-phenotype hypotheses.
- Practical applications/examples of the use of 3D systems in
  animal breeding.

Abstract submissions will open in September 2021 and close in January
2022.

All the best,

Erik Mullaart (Local Chair) and Elisabetta Giuffra (International Chair)

Met vriendelijke groet / Kind regards,
