Subject: Two Graduate Student Positions at Dalhousie
       University (Canada)
Date: Fri, 26 May 2023 21:48:34 -0500

Dear colleagues,

We have two graduate student positions at our Lab (https://miarlab.ca/) in
the Department of Animal Science and Aquaculture
(https://www.dal.ca/...lture.html) at
Dalhousie University (https://www.dal.ca/):

1. A M.Sc. position in genetics and genomics of feed efficiency and related
traits in pigs

As a M.Sc. student, you will be responsible for conducting research and
development projects in feed efficiency in pig breeding and genomics,
including the traditional breeding, development, and use of methods for
genetic/genomic evaluation, gene discovery and validation, and their
integration.

Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in animal genetics or closely
related fields. Candidates are expected to understand quantitative genetics
and genomics and know or be willing to learn programming languages (R and
Python). Candidates must be highly motivated with a collaborative and
creative spirit.

The expected start date is September 2023, and an annual stipend is $24,000.

2. A Ph.D. position in genetics and genomics of complex traits in farm
animals

As a Ph.D. student, you will be responsible for conducting research and
development projects on complex traits in farm animals for a better
understanding of the biology underlying key traits and implementation to the
industry. As part of this research, you will be familiar with the analysis
of large data sets for genetic and genomic studies and the use of
corresponding statistical methods. In this role, you will have the
opportunity to interact with a strong and stimulating team of collaborators
within Dalhousie University, the University of Guelph, as well as other
collaborating research centers. You will also benefit from being trained in
high-performance computing and programming.

Candidates should hold a master’s degree in quantitative genetics or closely
related fields. Candidates should also have a strong background in population
genetics and genomics and know or be willing to learn to program (R and
Python). Candidates must be highly motivated with a collaborative and
creative spirit.

The expected start date is September 2023, and an annual stipend is $30,000.

For admission into the graduate program, the candidate must be admissible to
the Dalhousie Agriculture, graduate program:
https://www.dal.ca/...ments.html

Applicants must submit a cover letter stating qualifications and experience,
a Curriculum Vitae, including a list of publications and major projects, and
the names and contact information of three referees to: Dr. Younes Miar,
email: miar@dal.ca<mailto:miardal.ca>. Please specify the position you want
to apply for in the email title as MSc_2023_yourname and PhD_2023_yourname
for applying for M.Sc. and Ph.D. positions, respectively.

For further information regarding the research projects, please contact Dr.
Younes Miar.

Regards,
Younes
