Research Geneticist

National

Lactanet Canada is looking for an experienced geneticist with strong
programming skills. In this position, which primarily focusses on research
and development, you will be joining the team of geneticists responsible for
the development and delivery of genetic evaluations and related services for
the Canadian dairy cattle industry. This is a full-time permanent position
reporting to the Manager of Genetic Evaluations and working closely with the
Genetics Industry Ambassador and Senior Advisor for Genetic Strategic
Initiatives.

Position Overview

- Main responsibilities of the successful candidate will be the research,
  development and implementation of genetic and genomic evaluation systems
  for novel traits as well as improving current systems as required.
- Attendance and presentations at designated scientific meetings will be
  required, as well as at research-focused Canadian industry meetings.
- The successful candidate may be involved in responding to technical
  inquiries from the Canadian industry and international organizations
  related to Canadian genetic evaluations.

Qualifications & Experience

- PhD in animal breeding, or equivalent, and at least 5 years post-doctorate
  experience
- Sound understanding of the theory and application of linear statistical
  models in genetic and genomic evaluation, including single-step methodology
- Strong computer programming skills in Fortran, C, R and/or SAS
- Knowledge and experience managing large datasets and with associated
  computational strategies
- A self-motivator with good communication and presentation skills
- Practical knowledge of dairy cattle improvement in Canada and a working
  knowledge of both the English and French languages are additional assets of
  the ideal candidate
